Course Papers
As part of this course you will be required to write 3 research papers. Each paper should follow the MST Research Paper Guidelines. In addition to these papers you will also be conducting a peer review of either a class or external paper using a specific review form. You will perform at least 3 paper reviews during the course of the semester. These are part of your secondary assignments.
ETG 6933 Research Paper Guidelines
Each paper will concentrate on one specific technology. An example of a technology can range from something as basic as the wheel, as complex as the computer, or it can deal with a more specific technology such as the LED. You will select one technology for each paper. The first paper - Historical Technology will concentrate on a technology that has reached a high level of maturity and is not undergoing major changes. The current technology paper will concentrate on a technology that is currently maturing, but has reached a level where it has widespread adoption. The final paper will concentrate on an emerging or new technology.
Secondary Assignments
Assignment 1 - This is a graded bulletin board discussion assignment. The questions and discussion are posted from the class main WebCourses page.
Assignment 2 - In this assignment you will both use communication technology and discuss technology. This will be sumbitted as a normal assignment in WebCourses where you submit a link to your response. I recommend you select some data and topics that can be used in support of one of your 3 papers. For assignment 2 you will view the lectures under "Data Collection and Analysis" - there are 3. Next you will need to create (or use an existing) blog of your own. It can be a private blog. You will need to write a blog entry of using some existing data (public data is fine) that you reference to make a point. You can use external references to back your point up. Post the URL of your blog, make sure that I can access it with an email registration of reaglin@mail.ucf.edu.
This one will take some creativity, and require you to likely create a blog. I will post some ideas on the bulletin board to help you out if you are stuck.
Assignment 3 - In this assignment you are looking at a new invention or technology and writing a simple description of how it came about with your own thoughts or compilation of information from sources as to what had to be in place for this technology to evolve. An example is the modern Mountain Bike, which relies on materials and manufacturing edvances for it to exist. Feel free to pick any technology or invention that is technology based and relies of prior technology to exist.

Assignment 4 - Watch (from the lectures page) Frontline - Growing Up Online. In your blog write a small article on how advances in technology have affected how you personally change the way you do things. Do you email instead of call? Do you keep touch with friends more? less? how - has technology changed this.
Assignment 5 - This assignment is designed to help with your ability to write an executive summary. After I have completely graded Papers 1 and 2, you will be able to select a paper from any other student and write an executive summary for that paper.
Assignment 6 -This is a relatively easy assignment. (1) Find a video that is related to technology that is in a field of interest to you, (2) On your blog place a link to this video and a short (< 200 words) synopsis of the video. I will grade you on the synopsis of the video. These video's may be used in a later assignment.
